In music theory, the scale degree is the position of a particular note on a scale relative to the tonic, the first and main note of the scale from which each octave is assumed to begin

In most cases, the degrees of the traditional major and minor scales are identified by Roman numerals




When it comes to chords, major chords are presented by capital Roman numerals (I-II-III-IV-V-VI-VII), and minor chords by lowercase Roman numerals (I-ii-iii-iv-v-vi-vii)

All chords are presented by capital Roman numerals and for minor chords, we use a lowercase m after the number (IVm)
